The Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, Section 13 Article 1881 established the office of City Marshal and reads, “The Marshal is the executive officer of the court. He or she shall execute the orders and mandates of the court and in the execution thereof, and in making arrests and preserving the peace, the Marshal has the same powers and authorities of a Sheriff.”
The City Marshal heads a team of Deputy Marshals for the City of West Monroe and Ward 5. The Deputy Marshals are POST certified peace officers under State law and have full police powers.
